Catherine Byfield


Catherine qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney in 2008 at a leading international IP specialist consultancy firm, she later spent time on secondment to a multinational drinks company and then moved to a full service UK firm with a renowned IP department.

Catherine has a wide range of experience across trade mark prosecution, exploitation, enforcement and portfolio management, both in the UK and internationally.  This has included managing and servicing a range of market leading clients in social media, broadcasting, fashion retail, beverages, pharma and financial services.

Catherine enjoys building relationships with clients, getting to the heart of their business and providing tailored commercial advice, she especially loves being involved from the outset of a brand’s creation, selection and launch.  Catherine is particularly experienced in managing evidence gathering projects, including setting up evidence banks for clients. Preparation of evidence in support of written proceedings and oral hearings both before the UKIPO and EUIPO and in conjunction with agents in various jurisdictions.

Catherine is a member of CITMA and has volunteered at the free advice clinics for several years. She writes case updates for the CITMA Review and lectures on the CITMA Paralegal course.

Catherine’s free time is largely spent with her husband and two young children, exploring the countryside with the dog.  She also tries to fit in yoga and running.
